Introduction

With their debut year behind them, Mazda Motorsport are looking forward to the 2009 season. The team will once again contest Class T of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship in Mazda 3 MPS'.

The team drivers are not new to motorsport and have impressive racing backgrounds.

Heinz Bose

Heinz began his motorsport career in karts in 1988. He competed in a few club events but had to put his racing ambitions on hold in order to complete his studies.

He returned to motorsport in 1994 where had competed in the VW Challenge. After a great first season, Heinz continued in the category in 1995 and won the class C championship. Once again, motorsport had to take a back seat while Heinz set-up his own business. He raced periodically between 1996 and 2001.

In 2002, Heinz won the class A and overall VW Challenge championship. He left VW Challenge at the end of 2003 after never finishing below third in any full championship season. He raced modified saloons for two years before moving to Bridgestone Production Cars in 2006.

He competed with a VW Polo TDI in class C and was an immediate front runner. Heinz moved to class T in 2007 with a VW GTI. He took five race wins and three pole positions. Heinz finished third in the championship.

Etienne Prinsloo

Etienne began racing at 10 years of age. He competed in the GP Junior class for three years before moving up to 100 Stocks. Etienne finished third in the Far Northern Transvaal championships in 1996 and second in 1997.

In 1998, Etienne moved into the 125cc Stock class. He did well in the class, but had to take a sabbatical from racing in order to focus on his studies. After a three year break from all racing activities, Etienne was more than ready to get back behind the wheel. He jumped straight into club racing, entering a Golf 1 in class B of the VW Challenge. In his first season, Etienne excelled. He won many races and ended the year fourth in the championship.

Etienne spent a year racing in class A of the VW Challenge in a Polo Playa before moving to Production Cars. He entered class C with a Bizhub sponsored VW Polo TDI. After spending much of 2006 learning the new circuits and setting up his car, Etienne made his presence felt at the front of the class in 2007. With five race wins and a further seven podium finishes, it is no wonder that Etienne was announced as the Car Magazine Rookie of the Year.
