Introduction

The Pretoria based Mazda Motorsport Team was founded in 2008 by Mazda South Africa, Heinz Bose and Hennie Prinsloo.

The first season was used as a development year and although it was a struggle, the team, with feedback from drivers Heinz Bose and Etienne Prinsloo, were able to gain a wealth of knowledge about the Mazda 3 MPS and its racing set-up.

The team took their first race win at Kyalami in July 2009 and followed this up with a second victory in front of their home crowd at Zwartkops a month later. After seven podium finishes, Heinz finished third in the 2009 Class T Championship.

After two years, there has been a change to the driver line-up for the 2010 season.

Heinz Bose

Heinz began his motorsport career in karts in 1988. He competed in a few club events but had to put his racing ambitions on hold in order to complete his studies.

He returned to motorsport in 1994 where he competed in the VW Challenge. After a great first season, Heinz continued in the category in 1995 and won the class C championship. Once again, motorsport had to take a back seat while Heinz set-up his own business. He raced periodically between 1996 and 2001.

In 2002, Heinz won the class A and overall VW Challenge championships. He left VW Challenge at the end of 2003 after never finishing below third in any full championship season. He raced modified saloons for two years before moving to Bridgestone Production Cars in 2006.

He competed with a VW Polo TDI in class C and was an immediate front runner. Heinz moved to class T in 2007 with a VW GTI. He took five race wins and three pole positions. Heinz finished third in the championship.

George Smalberger

George’s racing career started in karts just six years ago. After a brief stint at the Lotus Club, George moved to the Porsche Challenge where he excelled.

During his four years with the series, George won three championships. The first championship title came in 2004 when George won the Class F title. He followed this up with two back-to-back Class E titles in 2005 and 2006. After finishing second in the Class D championship in 2007, George decided to make the jump to National racing and joined Class T of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship in 2008.

Following two years of mixed success in a VW GTI, George joined Mazda Motorsport.
